AWS Serverless Computing and Managed Containers

The goal of any business or software development organization is to be agile, nimble and quick to market. Serverless computing, such as AWS Lambda, can enable you and your dev team to create and effectively utilize a microservices architecture. This type of architecture can be extremely cost effective and agile for development and application runtime environments since there are no servers, operating systems, etc. to manage. Code can be managed as individual microservices and billing is only activated during runtimes, which can be very cost effective.

Containers, essentially the next abstraction level above a virtual machine, can also be used effectively, since individual machines do not require management. Containers offer increased flexibility than VM’s and are much more portable. Kubernetes and AWS Elastic Container Service are often used to manage containers.
